HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources formerly Office of the Special Adviser on Mineral Resources Development was created in July 2011 in a move aimed at developing capacity to attend to the power needs of residents and explore the hydrocarbon, oil and gas potentials as well as other mineral resources of the State.
The Ministry has an overall responsibility of strategizing, promoting and developing sustainable policies for energy planning to ensure availability of reliable energy for all residents in Lagos State as well as making Lagos State an investment destination using available mineral resources {solid, liquid and gas} as catalyst
MANDATES/ RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MINISTRY
Formulate and evaluate policies relating to Energy and Mineral Resources matters
Development of sustainable policies for both conventional and renewable power solutions.
Collating power audit data to ensure Energy planning and availability of reliable energy for all residents of Lagos State
Working with the office of Public Private Partnership (PPP) to provide modalities for PPP initiative within the Energy Sector in Lagos State.
Continued engagement with Federal Government of Nigeria, Ministry of Power and its Agencies to align power reform policies and implementation.
Commissioning of studies to fully determine the availability of minerals (Solid, Liquid and Gaseous).
Liaison with relevant Federal Ministries, other Governmental Agencies, and Private Enterprises which are actively involved in mineral exploitation and exploration.
Creating an enabling environment for Private Investment in the exploration and exploitation of minerals in Lagos State.
Serving as the mineral and mining liaison office for interested operators in the Lagos State.
Regulation of sand dealing and sand dredging activities in the State.
Issuing of operational permit to persons, corporation, partnership or bodies involved in sand dealing and sand dredging operation in the State.
Monitoring of dredging and quarrying projects in the State especially sea dredging in conjunction with Lands Bureau
Extraction of Laterite.
Coordination and supervision of Independent Power Projects.
Supervision and Monitoring of; Lagos State Electricity Board, Ibile Oil ans Gas
Data assessment of petroleum storage tanks (surface and underground) facilities operating in the State
Issuance of petroleum storage permits to facilities
Pool Agency for chemical engineers and Geologists
Any other duty as may be assigned by the Governor
